The guitar looked great and played beautifully well, in addition it had that unmistakable vintage 60s Japanese pickup sound that we just love. Teisco basses have an unusual pickup design, which is exclusive to the Del Rey series, which includes a large, rectangular chrome pickup, with plastic holding the poles in place. Though I would say the guitar was probably ultimately better suited for maybe 10s, but each player has his or her preferences on that of course. We had this guitar set up with 8 gauge strings (believe it or not), and it plays them very well – no buzzing or jangling. Pickups are microphonic pick-ups, and they have those sounds that you may be after if reading this – that warm clean sound and that massive chunky distorted sound.
It was a big chunky neck that feels great in your hand. The neck on this guitar was one of our favorites. The guitar already had great action so no adjustments needed there, and the neck was straight as an arrow. There was also some deadness around the 10th fret that we fixed. The frets needed cleaning around them (and even under one of them). The electronics were very clean and nice. And we did whatever repairs or cleaning is necessary (on this one, we just worked on the frets and cleaned the electronics). Excellent condition with only very minor surface scratches and small dings. Neck appears to be vertically laminated bamboo. Hollowbody single cutaway violin style body in a classic sunburst finish. We tried o keep everything original on these guitars (and on this one we haven’t changed anything – it’s completely original, as far as we can tell). Rare and funky 1965 Tesico Del Rey EB-200w Violin Bass Japan's answer to the Hofner Beatle bass. This guitar was super cool looking of course (as most of these 60s Japanese guitars are), but it also was as wonderfully playable as any nice guitar should be. The finish has a subtle metallic sparkle to it that might not be visible in the photos. This 1964 Teisco was dated with the information provided at (great site!). I dont recall if it was a sunburst like the picture below or if it was red. It was a butchered up Teisco Del Rey E-120 that was given to me by my friend Mike in the 7 th or 8 th grade. Plays just great and boasts a hot single coil vintage tone. I received my first guitar before I knew I wanted to play. This bass is super stylish and ready to rock! Get a load of the lengthy headstock on this guy! This is one of the more popular and collectible basses that Teisco ever produced, and you can't beat the price here for a fully functional specimen. The metal faceplate on the headstock of the bass is a little scratched up from contact with strings, but it seems as though thats what it was there for in the first place. Some minor cosmetic wear should be visible in the photos. General Cosmetic Condition: This bass, like most instruments of it's age, has a few minor dings and scrapes around it's edges, but nothing major or visible from more than a couple feet away. 080" on the treble side, measured at the 12th fretįret Wear: Fret wire is thin in size and shows very minimal fret wear construction, Rosewood fingerboard with unique rectangular fret markers, finish on the neck exhibits almost no wearĪction. Hardware: All original, very cool matching matte metal pick guard and headstock plate Electronics: Two single coil pickups, 1 master volume, 1 master tone, large 2-way on/off switches for both pickups
